I’ve just taken this quiz over at Sprocle and I tell you something, “Challenge” is indeed the right word!
http://www.sporcle.com/games/Kiwi_Buckle/100clipchallenge is where you’ll find it.
Have a shot yourself, I guarantee you’ll find it a lot harder than expected! It made me think, we know a lot of things just by sound, most notably songs. But why is it that our brain cannot make the connection between a 4 second sound bite that we hands down recognise, and the name of the song?
100 Songs were in that challenge, and I personally recognised at least 75% of them, and yet I only got 17 right on my first go?
How much do we actually pay attention to music we enjoy and listen to, when it’s on the radio, or even your MP3 player. I mean, a lot of the time I knew the artist and just couldn’t place the song title. Why do we do this?
Taking this challenge has shown me that I just don’t pay attention. I’ve never been one for watching music videos, I’ve always preferred to LISTEN to music, I mean, that’s what we’re supposed to do, is it not? But is that also why I can’t place the name of the song? Sometimes, it’s that the name of the song doesn’t appear in the lyrics, and you wont associate it.
At the end of the day, this challenge was not only fun to take, but a bit of an eye opener to how I percieve music I enjoy, so if you have a spare 20 minutes, I would definately give it a go, and see what you get! 😀
