Friday I’m In Love – The Cure

The Cure have got a few good songs, and this one is a favourite of my Psychology teacher, who has it as her mobile phone’s ringtone. Thank God it isn’t the damn morse-code for SMS. I hate that tune…

The Cure. The cure to what? Measles? I liked Measles. I really did. They made me feel special. Regardless, The Cure are a band and this is one of their songs.

Friday I’m In Love is a funny one. It tells of how a man doesn’t care about his love, apart from on a Friday. She can do anything to him until then, but that’s when it matters to him. It’s like some annoying amnesia problem. Or some annoying amnesia problem. Or maybe it’s some annoying amnesia problem. Maybe it’s…

Regardless, stuff happens. It happens to me mostly, but it happens. He loves her and she loves him, presumably, so let them be together on Fridays. Fridays are great anyway. I like Fridays.

The funny thing about the song, is that you can understand it. I’m used to be unsure what The Cure are saying, but here, I can tell EXACTLY what the lyrics are. I mean, seriously. I can understand him. It’s not like Close To Me, where it’s all a bit… Bob Dylan-y. Is it? Favourite lyrics? Hold onto your fez! This is a long one!

“I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday I’m in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love”

The music’s simple, but sounds good. It’s a bit poppy, but a bit unique. I like it. I like it a lot. There’s no real reason why, or if there is, I can’t explain it, but it makes a special part of my innards tingle and that’s good enough for me. And no, it’s not my balls!

But like a lost of songs, there’s something wrong. It’s too short. I wish it was longer – much longer – but it isn’t. It could be epic – very epic – but it isn’t. Sorry guys!

That Guy

PS. Or it could be some kind of annoying amnesia problem…
