Just because i didn’t say it before at the traditionally appropriate time, Happy new year everyone. Though if you count the whole year as the new year then there’s no problem and if time is an illusion then is there a year and if there is, when is it new?…. These are good questions for people far more clever than me, i’ll just stick to a well reasoned opinion….. There more fun anyway. Continue reading “New years resolution”
The passing of a day sometimes marks the passing of a year, and this day marks the passing of this year. 2014 has officially ended, depending on your timezone, and in 12 hours time, even that won’t matter. Here, in Merry Old England, 2014 is over. It will always be over, and it will never come back.
Recently, US radio host Rush Limbaugh said that actor Idris Elba shouldn’t play James Bond because he is black and Ian Fleming wrote the character as a white Scot. This is bullshit.
Let me tell you a story, because I want to become a fiction writer at some point and I’m quite pissed, and so, wish to tell you all about my infuriated state. Plus, I never get a chance to rant any more, so this will be a nice thing for me to do.
So, in my absence, it appears that I received an email from one of our writers, deciding that although there was not, quote, “anything wrong with the blog”, but that she felt it was not her kind of content. I can’t fault that. In fact, I commend that. If you’re not happy somewhere, you shouldn’t stay, and if more people realised and acted on it, then we might be living in a much better world.
So, on behalf of TGTRS, I would like to wish Lord Of The Doctor (please excuse the amendment to the name, blame my OCD) a wonderful time in her future endeavours, wherever they may be!
Despite the fact that they are often subject to cliches, I actually quite like murder mysteries. In my view, Death on the Nile (1937) and Murder on the Orient Express (1934) are genius, Columbo is one of the greatest fictional characters of all time and, despite being pretty silly, I still enjoy shows like Murder She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder. So, when I found out that there was a film which parodied one of my favourite genres of all time, I was pretty excited. So, did Murder By Death (1976) live up to my expectations? Is Piers Morgan the worst thing since the film adaption of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin? The answer to both questions is the same; yeah, pretty much.
I recently read an article on Listverse called “10 Baffling Wives of Serial Killers”, found here:
It was highly offensive and betrayed the writer’s, a Mr S. Grant, immense ignorance. The list constantly attacked the significant others of serial killers for not discovering their crimes sooner and helping to bring them to justice. I really like the majority of listverse articles but this one was just atrocious and the people in the comments knew it. However, the views expressed by Mr Grant are, sadly, not just limited to himself. Most of the public look down on the wives of serial killers for exactly the same reasons expressed in the article and I feel obliged to defend a group of women who are, arguably, the forgotten victims of serial killers.
